The mission of Mt. Cross Ministries: Igniting Passionate Faith - Equipping Servant Leaders - Spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ
Camp staff positions can be tremendously rewarding, incredibly challenging, and almost always life changing. Please prayerfully consider the life of a servant this summer. And please apply for a position as you feel called. All of us on the year round staff, look forward to serving alongside you this summer!

Mt. Cross Ministries
Mt. Cross is a Gospel-centered, Lutheran Camp. Everything we do here is centered on bringing the good news to life.

Mt. Cross is located in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The camp sits on 105 acres among the Redwood trees and is 15 minutes away from the Pacific Ocean. What’s not to love?

As a camp we promise to:

    • Be good stewards of the resources provided for our use.
    • Provide the highest quality programs, service and hospitality within out means while creating on environment where our guests / campers feel safe.
    • Draw guests / campers into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.
    • Be your camp – Serving and meeting your spiritual, emotional and physical needs.

PROGRAMS
Mt. Cross offers a variety of programs for campers of all ages. We offer on-site programs for grade school, Jr. High and High School we also offer programs to youth groups and families. Older campers have the opportunity to participate in off-site adventure camps. We set aside two weeks especially for people with developmental disabilities. We also offer Day Camps, where teams of five counselors travel to towns in California and Nevada to lead a week long program in a local congregation. As mentioned above, all age groups come to camp each summer and you’ll have the opportunity to work with most all of them, not to mention the opportunity to travel to towns and cities for day camps at least once during the summer.

POSITIONS AVAILABLE
Mt. Cross hires approximately 35 college aged and young adult staff. That breaks down to approximately 20 counselors, 2-3 day camp team leaders, 2 adventure leaders, 4-6 support staff, 2 lifeguards, a camp nurse, a trading post/office position along with a crafts coordinator. For more details, please see our general summary of positions available. Remember due to the rather small staff size, you will have the opportunity to serve in many areas of the camp program! Being at camp, in any role, is hard, fulfilling work. Most likely, this will be the hardest job you’ll love the most.

All applicants must have a loving, growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

All applicants must have a healthy work ethic and willingness to work hard, be flexible, and desire to serve in a variety of ways. Often there are additional weeks of work available after the last day of official summer counselor.

SALARY

NLOMA (National Lutheran Outdoor Ministry Association) APPLICATIONS

Mt. Cross recruits their summer staff through a process called Joint Recruitment with the nationwide camping organization called National Lutheran Outdoor Ministry Association (NLOMA) of which we are a member. You can fill out the application at the NLOMA website and choose a camp for your first and second choice, and even a region of the country you might be interested in working in for the summer.

If you want to apply to Mt. Cross, you simply write Mt. Cross, California on the line that asks for your first choice camp preference. There is a list of descriptions of other camps included on the NLOMA website. There is always the possibility that we will get more applications than we can hire. In that case, some applicants will be passed on to other camps. We'd encourage you to consider serving at another camp if Mt. Cross isn't able to hire you. We appreciate you applying to work here, and we also want to encourage you to think of other possibilities in Outdoor Ministries across the country.

INTERESTED?

If you are interested in a summer position fill out the application and return it to our office ASAP. (You can even send it online!) All applicants must include a small, in-focus, picture of yourself (no larger than 4x5) that we may keep for our records and the interview process. If you send your application online, please also include an email to Mindi Wagner at program@mtcross.org letting her know you have applied online. That way she can look for your application to come through her office.

NOTIFICATION
We begin the interview process in January and the first round of decisions occurs around February 15th at the Joint Recruitment. BUT IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO APPLY! The earlier you apply the better chance you have to get your first choice, but always give us a call to see if we have last minute openings! All applicants interviewed during January and February will be notified by March 1st of their employment status.
